What is a Floating Sound Bath? Your Questions Answered

You may have been to a Sound Bath where you lie down and listen to crystal bowls, gongs and chimes, sending you into a meditative bliss. Imagine this same experience, except now you are floating in a warm indoor pool, where your body is fully relaxed, and your mind can shut off the mental chatter. While you are floating, a Reiki healer swims up to you, gently works on your energy field, and plays a Tibetan bowl over you. You feel the waves of sound resonating in every cell of your body. You go home that night and sleep like a baby — the best sleep you’ve had in years.

This is truly a “sound bath of all sound baths” and we invite you to experience one at The Deep End. Check out the following Frequently Asked Questions and click here to sign up for our next event.

1) Why a sound bath in the water?

Studies have shown that floating and being near water calms the nervous system and allows for more oxytocin to move through your body. It is believed that water has its own DNA memory and matches the frequency around it. The power of sound moves easily through water and since our bodies are made up over 70% water we can easily attune to that resonant frequency.

2) What kind of floats are offered?

We provide hammock floats and noodles which allow you to rest comfortably and be in and out of the water as needed.

3) How warm is the water?

The water will be 90+ degrees — similar to a warm bath.

4) What should I wear?

We recommend you wear a swimsuit under your clothing or be prepared to change once you get here. There is a changing room, bathroom, benches and extra towels.

5) How long will I be floating? What else happens while I’m there?

You will be in the water for approximately 45 minutes. The entire event is 2 hours long which begins with a 45 minute gathering to discuss the astrology of the evening, plus two 15-minute intervals for changing, bathroom breaks, etc.

6) What sound instruments will be played?

The sound healer will be playing instruments such as Tibetan and crystal bowls, gongs, chimes and tuning forks that align with specific chakra points for energy clearing.

7) What type of healing happens during the event?

There are three Reiki practitioners that work on people during the event. Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing that means ‘universal life force energy.’ It facilitates your own self healing process and goes where it needs to go. As you float, you are also bathing in Reiki-infused waters - another layer of healing you will experience during the event.

8) Do I need to be in the pool for the sound bath? Is there another option?

If you don’t want to be in the water you can still experience the sound bath alongside the pool. We provide fluffy mats and you are free to get out of the pool anytime and relax on the mats as well.

9) Where is the event held?

The floating events are held at The Deep End, a private in-door pool venue located in Harvard, MA.
